Design custom fibre optic cables online
Build custom fibre optic cables to the exact length and connectors your job needs: patch leads, armoured and ruggedised runs, multi-core trunk cables and MPO or MTP® breakouts. If the cable you need isn't an off-the-shelf length or connector combination, we make it to order. Choose the fibre (OS2 single mode or OM2, OM3 and OM4 multimode), core count, construction and jacket colour, set the connectors and polish at each end, and add end and leg labels. The Cable Designer draws the cable with its pin-out, loss budget and spec sheet as you go.
- Patch leads in LSZH or plenum (OFNP) at 1.6, 2.0 or 3.0 mm, and slim armoured patch leads (1 or 2 cores)
- Trunks in slim LSZH or plenum (OFNP) at 4, 8, 12, 24 and 48 cores
- Ruggedised trunks for cable trays, slim (Ø 3.0 mm) or heavy-duty, at 2, 4, 8, 12 and 24 cores, in LSZH (yellow) or TPU (black)
- Steel-armoured trunks for outdoor, pit and conduit runs at 1, 2 and 4 cores
- LC, SC and MPO or MTP® (12 and 24 fibre) connectors, UPC or APC, with short boots on LC and SC and uniboot on LC duplex; MPO breakouts to LC duplex, simplex or 4 × duplex (40G/100G)
- Lengths from 0.3 m to 2 km, ten jacket colours on standard constructions, and bare fibre pigtails on a reel
Anyone can design with every construction and send it as a quote request, and we'll reply with a firm price and delivery date within 1 business day. Made to order: standard 3–4 weeks, express 2–3 weeks, shipped anywhere in Australia. Trade account holders can log in so their contact details are filled in on the quote request. Every custom cable is tested before dispatch and ships with a serial-numbered test label showing the insertion and return loss of each fibre.

Cable Designer FAQ
What kinds of custom fibre cable can I design?
Patch leads, armoured patch leads, multi-core trunk cables (slim LSZH, plenum OFNP, ruggedised slim or heavy-duty, and steel armoured), MPO or MTP® trunks and breakouts, and bare fibre assemblies. You set the fibre, core count, construction, jacket colour, connectors, length and labels. If we don't stock the length or connector combination you need, design it here and we make it to order.
Which connectors are available?
LC, SC and MPO or MTP®, in UPC or APC polish. Short boots are offered on LC and SC, and LC duplex is also available with a uniboot. For FC, ST or E2000 connectors, or speciality fibre, request a call back from inside the designer.

How many cores can a custom fibre cable have?
The designer offers 1, 2, 4, 8, 12, 24 and 48 cores, depending on the construction: patch leads 1–2, armoured trunks 1–4, ruggedised trunks 2–24, and slim LSZH or OFNP trunks 4–48 (48 cores with MPO or MTP® ends). Need more? Request a call back.
How do I get a price?

Are custom cables tested?
Yes. Every custom cable is tested before dispatch and carries a serial-numbered test label showing the insertion loss and return loss of each fibre.
Do I need an account to use the Cable Designer?
No. Anyone can design a cable and print the drawing, spec sheet and loss budget, then send it as a quote request. Trade account holders can log in so their contact details are filled in for them, or you can apply for a trade account with your ABN.
What is a design code?
Every design has a design code that describes the whole cable, for example OS2A1-8F-TRRUG-LSZH-YEL-LCU/LCU-4D-20.0M-BO50/50 (OS2 G.657.A1, 8 cores, heavy-duty ruggedised in LSZH, yellow, LC/UPC both ends, 4 duplex legs, 20 m, 50 cm breakouts). Paste a code into the box at the top of the designer, or open a link ending in ?code= followed by the code, to load the design and change it. Quote the code when you email or call us.
Can an AI assistant design a cable for me?
Yes. An assistant can build the design in the Cable Designer, or open a design directly with a link such as /pages/cable-designer?code=…, then fill in the quote request. You confirm the request, or the assistant can email the design code and your contact details to info@fibreonline.com.au. See FibreOnline for AI assistants.
Can I return a custom cable?
Custom cables are built to your design, so they aren't covered by our standard 30-day return policy, which applies to in-stock items. If something isn't right with a custom cable, contact us with your order or quote number and we'll work through it with you.
